Where am I now? I am firmly on the road to ongoing fitness. 2 months ago I was 20 lbs heavier, loaded with stress and wanting change in a big way.
4 months ago I started that change by altering some important eating habits. I added good foods like whole grains, more vegetables and fruits. I limited other foods such as red meat. I had no overall plan, I just made a few simple changes.
Now, I plan what and how I eat. I exercise regulary. I am stronger, healthier and feel 100% better. In the 8 weeks since I began in earnest, I have not "fallen off the wagon" once. Why? Because I now know it isn't about dieting, it is about being. My new motto is:
Don't do, be!
I have changed who I am and what I eat is simply a reflection of who I am. I work out because that is who I am. I don't diet, I eat like someone like me eats. I think about what I put in my body because I value my body and its state of health.
How did I change who I am? That's a simple question that has a rather complex answer...

Return from somewhere
Its been quite a few years since I can regard myself as being fit. This year, 2008, marks my return to fitness. Why? I suppose there are many reasons and I'm sure I'll talk about them all eventually. The main reason: I finally value my fitness. So far, I've lost 20 lbs and have gained quite a bit of muscle mass. I'll check in here to record my progress, my triumphs and my difficulties. My hope is that as I (and you) look back through these posts something of importance will arise. How did I do it? Why now? Why not before? What was the real impetus behind this?
